Form for Session 1 Fall 2009
Greater Victoria Compost Education Centre
Wed., October 7, 2009
To Fernwood by Foot
Time to refresh our street skills for field trips. We will practice our walking and group behaviour skills on our way to the Compost Education Centre. At the centre we will be participating in an Interactive Garden Tour where the staff will teach us all about the centre and about composting practices. On the way to or from the centre we will be stopping at the Fernwood Community Centre for a break at the playground.
Students must come prepared with their lunches, water, and seasonal clothes.
Bowker Creek @ Haultain Park
Wed., October 14, 2009
To "Haultain Park" along the Bowker Creek Greenway by Bike.
This is the first biking field trip of the year and as such a time to practice our bike safety skills. We will bike to Haultain Park between Kings and Haultain along the Bowker Creek Greenway. There we will review any bike safety skills that need polishing up and then spend some time exploring the area for some of the plants and animals that live near Bowker Creek and the surrounding park. There will also be a creek art activity and, time permitting, a field game.
Students must come prepared with their lunches, water, seasonal clothes, bikes and bike safety skills.
Government House
Wed., October 28, 2009
To Government House by Bike
This is the first of several field trips planned this year to supplement the Governance focus of our four year thematic curriculum cycle. We will bike to the Lieutenant Governor's House on Rockland Ave. where a free historical tour has been organized for the students. The tour is scheduled for 11 am, so students choosing to attend need to be at the school and ready to leave at 10 am. On our return journey we will likely stop at either the Fernwood Community Centre or George Jay Elementary for some active play time.
