Government House On Wednesday, October 28 we went to Government house on a field trip. It was incredibly interesting. We were split into three groups and toured the house learning about past Lieutenant Governors and what it takes to become one. We also learned some general history of B.C. and the First Nations, like how the First Nations harvested wood without killing the trees. We learned about the purposes for the different rooms in the house, like how the sitting room was where the ladies would go after dinner while the men stayed at the table and discussed topics thought to be unfit for the ladies' ears, like politics. We went and looked at the lady's washroom which had rows of padded stools and mirrors for re-doing your make-up. It was very funny. After we had lunch in the beautiful Garry Oak meadow and then went to the gazebo in the front garden and reviewed what we had learned on the tour. All in all, it was a very informative field trip. |
