Water Week (July 12th to 16th)
During Water Week, students will be engaged in learning about the flowing aspects of their local bioregion. This will allow for students to recognize the deeper influence of our waterways and explore the creatures within them. During the hot days of summer, this will be a refreshing week, soaked with bioregional fun.
Tuesday July 13th
Biking to Willow's Beach/Cattle Point
On Tuesday's field trip, we will be biking to Willow's Beach for the lowest tide of the summer. Students will be able to explore the sand flats that the waves have left behind as well as investigate the biodiversity of the tide pools at Cattle Point.
Thursday July 15th
Biking to Rotary Water Park
On Thursday, we will be biking to Rotary Water Park where students can play water-oriented games in the many sprinklers and jets that fill this popular location. This is always a favourite field trip for students enrolled in the summer program, because we all know there's nothing like a cool shower on a hot summer day.
Workshops & Activities
This wet week we will do some of the following activities: water relays, ocean games, papier machee sea creatures, wax/water-colour underwater scenes, exploring the salmon run and the cultural/biological significance of them, learning about water catchment systems, water cycles, fresh water deposits, and weather systems. So that we don't feel too blue, a green plumber may come to teach us about sustainable water systems that are being implemented in our very city.
